65+ Homestead Exemption Scam Alert
We've received reports of scam calls impersonating the assessor’s office contacting property owners age 65+ and pretending to help with applications for the new 65+ Homestead Exemption.
The Mason City and Cerro Gordo County Assessor’s Offices are not contacting property owners to initiate applications for this exemption. If you receive one of these phone calls it is a scam attempting to gather your personal information. If anyone contacts you asking for your social security number or any other personal information, please report it to local law enforcement.
To apply for the 65+ Homestead Exemption, or for questions regarding your application status, contact the Mason City's Assessor Office, located on the 3rd floor of the Courthouse.
You can also check the status of your Homestead Exemption via Beacon.
Cerro Gordo County residents living outside of Mason City should reach out to the County Assessor.
